In
the wake of the tsunami and earthquakes, there was an enormous
outpouring of international aid for all the affected nations.
Indonesia, which was particularly hard-hit, received multiple
pledges to support the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction
of Aceh and Nias. The BRR estimated the total amount of
pledges at around US$ 5 billions.
With such a large influx of funds, one of the largest challenges
facing the Government of Indonesia is ensuring that these resources
are managed effectively and in a coordinated and transparent
way.
As one of the mechanisms to ensure efficient and coordinated
delivery of financial support, the Government of Indonesia requested
the World Bank, to set up a Multi-Donor Fund, which to date
represents over US$700 million and to date has 15 donors.
